Investment in Birmingham and the Black Country's healthcare infrastructure is set to boost annual GP appointment capacity by approximately 380,000. This significant enhancement stems from upgrades and reconfigurations at 63 GP practices and 4 hospital trusts.
The Primary Care Utilisation and Modernisation Fund facilitated these improvements, resulting in 95 additional consulting and clinical rooms. The Black Country Integrated Care Board highlighted that this expansion will directly address health inequalities and improve patient access to care.
Furthermore, the program champions environmental sustainability by prioritizing the improvement and reuse of existing NHS buildings, thereby contributing to the NHS's carbon footprint reduction goals.
Sarb Basi, deputy chief officer, noted that these investments in GP facilities are making a tangible difference for patients. The newly created clinical rooms enable practices to increase appointment availability and improve local care access, aligning with broader health plan objectives.
