25 Mar
Summary
- Over 4,700 chickens died suddenly at a state poultry farm.
- Laboratory tests confirmed the deaths were due to Bird Flu.
- Affected areas are under strict quarantine with movement bans.

A significant outbreak of Bird Flu has been confirmed at a state poultry farm in the Koni area of Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh. Between March 19 and March 24, a mysterious die-off saw approximately 4,744 chickens perish. Subsequent laboratory tests from samples sent to Bhopal and Pune confirmed the presence of avian influenza.
In response, immediate and extensive culling and sanitation measures were enacted. Over 22,808 birds and hatchlings, along with feed and utensils, were buried. The farm and surrounding areas have been segmented into an Infected Zone (1 km radius) and a Surveillance Zone (10 km radius) with stringent movement restrictions.
The administration has banned the transport of poultry and eggs from these zones. Compensation will be provided to affected owners by the Animal Husbandry Department. Health and veterinary departments are monitoring residents and nearby farms, enforcing biosecurity and urging public vigilance. The farm will be sealed upon completion of culling operations.
