Bird flu has been confirmed at Diamond Poultry Farm in Navapur, Nandurbar district, after poultry samples tested positive for the H5N1 virus. State Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Kiran Patil, has directed the district administration to initiate preventive measures.
Approximately 1.5 lakh chickens are being culled within a 1-km radius of the infected farm to curb the spread. A 3-km containment zone has been declared by local authorities. These actions align with the Government of India's Action Plan.
A District Level Review Committee meeting, chaired by the District Collector, will be convened to finalize prevention strategies. Coordination between Health, Forest, Water Resources, and local self-government bodies is mandated. Vigilance will be increased at reservoirs and wildlife areas.
Instructions have been issued to report any unusual bird mortality or symptoms to the Animal Husbandry Department. Increased monitoring of poultry blood samples and zoo surveillance are also in effect. Citizens are advised to report unusual deaths to authorities and follow bio-safety protocols, avoiding rumors.
