Bird Flu Confirmed in Darbhanga Crows

Dead crows found in Darbhanga's ward number 31 have tested positive for the bird flu virus (H1N1). This discovery has led the district animal husbandry department to escalate disinfection and surveillance efforts. The joint director of the animal husbandry department in Patna confirmed the findings on the evening of January 29th, 2026. In response, surrounding areas were disinfected, and the carcasses were disposed of through deep burial.

Personnel were previously dispatched to Mukti Dham following reports of numerous dead crows. Samples from these birds were sent to the Institute of Animal Health & Production in Patna. An assistant poultry officer stated that around 400 to 450 crows had died in the vicinity. Disinfection is ongoing within a 1-kilometer radius of the affected site, and sero-surveillance is in progress. Examinations of chickens are also underway, with serum swabs being sent for further testing.
