Bihar is set to significantly expand its medical infrastructure with ten new government medical colleges under construction. These institutions, located in Madhubani, Vaishali, Siwan, Jamui, Bhojpur, Buxar, Begusarai, Supaul, Munger, and Sitamarhi, are already progressing with construction. This expansion builds upon recently established medical colleges in Purnia, Bettiah, Samastipur, Madhepura, and Saran.
The Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) redevelopment project is advancing, with 1,100 beds operational out of a planned 5,400. Darbhanga Medical College Hospital is also undergoing a substantial upgrade to 2,500 beds. These efforts aim to bolster specialized care, with all block-level community health centres developing into specialty hospitals.
