Bihar Launches 17-Day HIV Screening Blitz
23 Feb
Summary
- Over 300 health camps will screen people for HIV across Bihar's 38 districts.
- The campaign aims to achieve 95% HIV status awareness and treatment linkage.
- Screening focuses on high-traffic transit points and migration-prone villages.
Bihar is set to conduct a significant 17-day health camp initiative, commencing on February 24, to screen individuals living with HIV. This effort, guided by the National AIDS Control Organisation, will deploy 300 camps across all 38 districts. The drive is crucial given the expected large arrival of migrant populations during Holi. It aligns with the '95:95:99' benchmarks, focusing on HIV status awareness, treatment access, and viral suppression. Camps are strategically located at transit points and high-risk migration villages. Authorities have identified key districts with high migrant influx and HIV prevalence, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya. Each camp will conduct a minimum of 200 tests daily, with symptomatic individuals receiving on-site confirmatory results and prompt linkage to ART centers. This initiative aims to uncover hidden cases and bring them under medical supervision to achieve effective HIV control by December 2027.
