- Over 70kg of adulterated paneer seized in Hajipur.

The health department in Bihar has significantly ramped up its campaign against food adulteration and safety violations as the festive season approaches. This statewide initiative involves intensified raids, inspections, and the collection of food samples to guarantee consumer safety.
Recent operations in Patna, Hajipur, and Darbhanga, guided by health secretary-cum-food safety commissioner Kumar Ravi, led to the destruction of adulterated, expired, and substandard food items. In Patna's Fatuha, approximately 126 litres of milk were discarded after lab tests confirmed the presence of formalin, a prohibited preservative. Additional samples from the dairy unit were collected for further analysis.
Hajipur saw the seizure and destruction of 72kg of paneer due to starch adulteration. Similarly, in Darbhanga's Benipur, officials disposed of 21 litres of expired milk and 18kg of spoiled paneer. Legal actions are anticipated following laboratory reports on collected samples.
A joint team also inspected a food supplements facility in Fatuha, collecting samples for examination. Surprise checks at sweet shops in Patna emphasized the importance of hygiene. Commissioner Ravi affirmed that public health and food quality would not be compromised, warning businesses against selling unsafe products.
