15 Oct
Summary
- Over 950 surgical units installed across district hospitals.
- Rs 37 crore invested to strengthen surgical services.
- Aims to reduce patient travel for essential treatment.
Bihar's district hospitals are set to see a major improvement in surgical services with the installation of over 950 surgical equipment units. This Rs 37 crore investment is part of a broader strategy to enhance healthcare delivery within the state. The new equipment, sourced after an assessment of operational theatre needs, is designated for general surgery, orthopaedics, and obstetrics.
The health department's initiative is designed to bring essential treatment closer to patients, minimizing the need for them to travel to higher medical centers. This is expected to alleviate financial and logistical burdens for patients and their families.
Further enhancements include expanding specialist services to enable district hospitals to perform 76 types of surgical procedures. The hospitals are also equipped with 190 functional ICU beds and 120 ventilator beds, complemented by round-the-clock emergency and triage services.
