Summary
- 20 patients with thyroid swelling successfully operated on
- Procedures conducted under local anesthesia, a cost-effective and patient-friendly technique
- Workshop aimed to train visiting doctors to implement the technique in their own hospitals

Last week, a two-day workshop on thyroid disorders concluded at the Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) at Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The workshop, organized by the BHU ENT department, focused on training doctors in modern surgical techniques for treating thyroid disorders.
During the workshop, a team of BHU medical professionals, including Prof Rajesh Kumar, Prof Vishwambhar Singh, Dr S.K. Aggarwal, Dr Siva S., Dr Ram Raj Yadav, and Dr Rahul, successfully operated on 20 patients with thyroid swelling. Notably, all the procedures were conducted under local anesthesia, a method routinely practiced by the BHU ENT department, as opposed to the typical general anesthesia used for such surgeries.
The workshop aimed to train the 30 visiting doctors from across the country in this cost-effective and patient-friendly technique, so they could implement it in their own hospitals and benefit more patients nationwide. Medical professionals from nearby hospitals, such as Dr Sanjay Kumar, Dr Deepak Kumar Mishra, and Dr Shishupal Yadav, also participated in the training sessions.
