Karnataka's fight against tuberculosis has received a significant boost with the installation of a new Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CBNAAT) machine at KC General Hospital in Bengaluru. This addition is vital for managing the substantial patient volume and reducing diagnostic delays, aligning with the state's ambitious target of eliminating TB by 2025.
The new equipment, inaugurated by Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, was funded by Syngenta India Pvt. Ltd. through a corporate social responsibility initiative. The company provided seven CBNAAT machines, collectively worth around ₹1.5 crore, distributed across various districts, including Bengaluru, Vijayanagar, and Kolar.
CBNAAT technology offers rapid detection of TB and rifampicin resistance within two hours, a considerable improvement over traditional methods that take weeks. This advanced testing capability is instrumental in achieving India's national goal of TB eradication by 2025, a target five years ahead of global timelines.
