Food safety officials in Bengaluru have initiated inspections at some of the city's most prestigious private clubs, scrutinizing kitchens and food handling areas for compliance with hygiene and safety standards. These exclusive establishments, with memberships costing lakhs, are being evaluated for adherence to regulations concerning food storage, sanitation, and labeling.
During inspections, violations were identified at several clubs. The Bowring Club was found to have cockroaches present in various areas, including floors and containers. At the KSCA Club, significant hygiene lapses were reported, such as food handlers not maintaining adequate personal hygiene, the use of plastic cutting boards, a blocked drainage system, and an unhygienic frozen storage room.
Further issues noted across inspected clubs included non-compliant food labeling, improper separation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food storage, and a lack of hot water for utensil cleaning. These raids are ongoing, with authorities continuing to update findings. A press briefing is scheduled for Wednesday to share detailed inspection results.
