A BBC presenter has spoken out about his recent health scare, detailing an epileptic seizure he experienced while covering the World Cup in Mexico. He appeared on BBC Breakfast to update viewers on his recovery and his ongoing journey with epilepsy.
The presenter described the seizure as a tonic-clonic type, a form he has not experienced in over five years. He explained that the incident in Mexico City was likely caused by jet lag, noting it was his third seizure in a decade, with previous occurrences in Rio and on a treadmill.
He highlighted that witnesses often find such events more distressing than the person experiencing them. Fortunately, his colleagues in Mexico knew how to respond appropriately, preventing any physical or psychological harm he experienced during a similar seizure in Rio.
Drawing inspiration from his late sister, he is committed to raising awareness for epilepsy. He announced his upcoming participation in the London Marathon next year, running to support the Epilepsy Society.
