The National Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme commenced in Ballari on June 28, 2026, with Mayor P. Gadeppa initiating the vaccination drive for children under five. The campaign, organized by district authorities, aims to immunize 199,703 children and runs through July 1. Although India achieved polio-free status in 2014, continuous immunisation is deemed crucial for maintaining children's immunity.
Health officials emphasized the need for public awareness and maximum participation. The program includes booth vaccinations on the first day, followed by three days of door-to-door visits to cover 3.49 lakh households. Fifteen mobile vaccination teams are deployed to key transit points, and special attention is given to vulnerable populations in high-risk areas.
