Urgent Safety Warning for Popular Baby Sleeping Bags
2 Oct
Summary
- Safety alert issued for baby sleeping bags lacking arm holes or hoods.
- Risk of overheating and suffocation prompted the product safety warning.
- Advertising watchdog deemed 59% of baby product ads high risk.

A significant safety alert has been announced concerning baby sleeping bags that lack arm holes or include hoods. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued this warning due to the potential for overheating and suffocation.
This alert comes in the wake of almost 50 recalls or safety reports related to dangerous sleeping bag products in the UK since 2023. Parents and caregivers are urged to immediately cease using the affected products and to reach out to their retailers for potential recourse.
In parallel, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has also raised concerns about numerous online advertisements for baby products and services. A review found 59% of these ads to be high risk, with 60 others flagged for potential physical harm to infants.
The ASA highlighted that some ads exploit parental anxieties around colic, reflux, and sleep issues by promoting potentially dangerous items or practices, putting babies at severe risk.
