Baby Dies Amid Critical Hospital Staff Shortage

A tragic incident has occurred at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where a four-week-old infant passed away due to critical understaffing in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Lakshith Guptha Nalla was reportedly left for several hours on cold, wet bedsheets without adequate care. This led to him being malnourished and dehydrated at the time of his death.

An inquest heard that a series of failures, attributed to persistent and gross understaffing, directly contributed to the baby's demise. The four-week-old was left without food for four hours, and crucially, no staff members identified his developing infection or the hazardous conditions of his bedding.
