The Azim Premji Foundation has announced a significant investment of ₹4,000 crore over the next five years to establish a new 1,000-bed charitable super-specialty and multi-organ transplant hospital in Bengaluru. The government has agreed to lease 10 acres for the hospital, which will operate on a charitable basis.
The hospital aims to provide multi-organ transplant services, with a substantial portion of procedures offered free of cost or at minimal rates. This initiative is set to address the critical shortage of transplant facilities in Karnataka, where thousands await kidney and liver transplants.
This project aligns with Karnataka's broader vision to enhance tertiary healthcare infrastructure. The state government has set targets for establishing medical colleges and specialized hospitals in every district, moving towards a universal health coverage model.
