Summary
- Community Ayurveda trial in Haryana improved quality of life scores.
- Elderly participants showed enhanced cognitive function and biomarkers.
- Vision and physical inactivity were key health concerns identified.
A community-based Ayurveda intervention in Haryana's Faridabad district, conducted by the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), has demonstrated significant improvements in the quality of life for elderly participants. Over a three-month period, the initiative screened 5,594 individuals aged 60-80, providing them with Ayurvedic medicines.
Positive changes were noted in cognitive health assessments and key biomarkers, including serotonin, acetylcholine, DHEA, and vitamin D. The World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) assessment scores increased from 292.0 to 326.3 following a 60-day intervention. Improvements were also observed in Agnibala, an Ayurvedic concept related to digestive and metabolic strength.
Initial assessments revealed prevalent health issues among participants, such as vision problems (67.73%), physical inactivity (43.05%), and reduced cognitive function (6.85%). Other concerns included high blood pressure, elevated blood glucose, reduced bone mineral density, constipation, and sleep disturbances. Further scientific evaluation is recommended to validate these findings.
