The Centre of Excellence for Persons with Autism has successfully registered 1,050 children within its first 18 months of operation. This facility, established on December 5, 2024, on the campus of the Government Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in K.K. Nagar, now sees approximately 100 individuals daily, with a consistent influx of 8 to 10 new patients each day.
Driven by word-of-mouth awareness, the centre has seen remarkable growth from its initial five to ten patients per month. Over 700 enrolled children are actively benefiting from regular therapy sessions. The multidisciplinary team includes paediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists, employing diagnostic tools like the M-CHAT and Indian Scale for Assessment of Autism.
Future plans include expanding services to include physical education and pre-vocational training for those under 18, alongside vocational training for adults. New infrastructure is also planned, featuring a swimming pool for hydrotherapy and a dedicated sensory park, aiming to further enhance therapeutic options. The centre also hosts a daycare for younger children and is developing a mobile app to track progress.
