Aurora Vet Hospital Rushes to Aid Yellowknife Pets After Clinic Closure
21 Aug
Summary
- Yellowknife Veterinary Clinic closed for August due to family emergency
- Aurora Vet Hospital now the only clinic operating in the territory
- Vet Dr. Katie Denroche urges pet owners to reach out for help
As of August 21st, 2025, the Yellowknife Veterinary Clinic has temporarily closed its doors due to a family emergency, leaving the Aurora Veterinary Hospital as the only operational clinic in the entire Northwest Territories.
Dr. Katie Denroche, who runs the Aurora Veterinary Hospital, has assured pet owners that her small team will do their utmost to accommodate everyone in need of veterinary care. In an email to CBC News, Denroche acknowledged the challenge of serving the area's large pet population with limited resources, but emphasized that they are "happy to help" anyone who reaches out.
The Aurora Veterinary Hospital was established just months ago, staffed by former employees of the now-shuttered Great Slave Animal Hospital. With the Yellowknife Veterinary Clinic's closure, Denroche's clinic has become the sole provider of veterinary services in the territory.
Denroche has advised pet owners to contact the clinic via email or Facebook messenger, as their phone system is still being set up. She noted that they will be prioritizing appointment requests based on urgency, and recommended that owners have the VetTriage emergency number saved in their phones.
