In Thiruvananthapuram, the family of Army officer Rahul Rajeev, 30, made the compassionate decision to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead. The donation included his kidneys, liver, corneas, and heart valve, offering a new lease on life to several individuals.
Rahul, who was serving in Himachal Pradesh and on leave, passed away at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. His family's profound grief was met with an immense act of generosity, as his organs were allocated to patients in various medical facilities.
One kidney was transported via a green corridor to Thiruvalla, while the other went to a patient at Govt Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. The heart valve was donated to the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute, the liver to another private hospital, and his corneas to the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology.
The organ donation and allocation process was expertly coordinated by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO). This initiative was particularly meaningful as Rahul had already registered as a voluntary posthumous organ donor, underscoring his commitment to saving lives.
