Aravind's success stems from a unique, standardized approach akin to a "McDonald's type" model, focusing on efficiency and quality. It empowers young women from villages with specialized training, creating skilled employment for thousands. This model allows the income from paying patients to subsidize care for two others, keeping costs significantly below market rates.
The organization actively shares its expertise globally through initiatives like the Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology (LAICO), which has assisted numerous hospitals in 29 countries. Aravind continues its founder's legacy of knowledge-sharing through innovative research programs, contributing extensively to ophthalmological publications.
