Acorn House, a hospital-based charity, recently marked its 25th anniversary with a celebration attended by Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke. The charity offers a free place to stay for families whose children are undergoing treatment at Cambridge's Addenbrooke's Hospital.
Since its inception, Acorn House, run by The Sick Children's Trust, has provided essential support to over 10,000 families. The venue offers 15 bedrooms, communal facilities, and emotional support, significantly easing the burden on parents during incredibly difficult times.
Anton Du Beke, who became an ambassador in 2023, has been a dedicated fundraiser, accumulating over £250,000 for the charity. He described the charity's work as "wonderful," highlighting the immense relief it provides to parents who can stay near their sick children without incurring costs or facing separation.
Parents like Fran and Jack found Acorn House to be an "indescribable lifeline" when their son was in intensive care. The charity's operation costs approximately £40 per night per family, a minimal expense for the profound emotional and practical support it delivers.
