Project Sanjeevani: Tech Transforms Andhra Healthcare

Andhra Pradesh is redefining public healthcare by shifting its focus from treating illnesses to prioritizing prevention, early diagnosis, and continuous monitoring. This transformation is being driven by Project Sanjeevani, a key initiative under the state's Swarnandhra vision 2047. The project integrates digital technology with doorstep services to create a comprehensive preventive healthcare ecosystem.

The initiative, led by health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav, aims to establish a connected healthcare network. It links citizens, doctors, diagnostic services, and government systems through a common digital framework. The pilot phase, launched in Kuppam in July 2025 and expanded to Chittoor district, has shown promising results, reaching approximately 19.75 lakh individuals.

Significant progress includes the digital registration of about 4.73 lakh citizens and nearly 3.97 lakh ABHA enrollments. The integrated system has facilitated over 2.20 lakh treatments and distributed more than 4.68 lakh medicines, alongside conducting nearly 26,000 lab tests. This demonstrates a tangible impact on healthcare delivery.

Collaborations with partners like the Gates Foundation and Tata Sanjeevani are crucial for strengthening preventive care, digital architecture, and health systems. The state envisions a predictive healthcare system leveraging AI for disease surveillance and telemedicine, particularly benefiting rural populations by bridging access gaps to specialist care.

Project Sanjeevani represents a broader shift towards smarter, preventive, and people-oriented health systems. Minister Satya Kumar highlighted that this model emphasizes the future of healthcare lies in the effective combination of affordability, accessibility, and digitization, offering valuable lessons for other regions.

Future plans include developing a predictive healthcare system that utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify emerging health risks and improve disease surveillance. This advanced approach aims to expand telemedicine services and enhance specialist access, further addressing healthcare disparities, especially for those in rural areas.
