As of July 1, 2026, Andhra Pradesh faces a critical need for organ transplants, with 5,839 patients awaiting life-saving procedures, primarily kidneys and livers. The state has achieved the sixth position nationally for organ donations from brain-dead donors.
In preparation for National Organ Donation Day on August 3, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has urged families to engage in discussions about organ donation and make informed choices. An awareness program is scheduled in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, August 2.
Organ donation from brain-dead donors has shown consistent growth, increasing from 41 in 2023 to a record 93 in 2025, facilitating 301 transplant surgeries last year. By July 24, 2026, 56 donors were registered.
The transplant services have expanded significantly, now available in nine hospitals across various districts, including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Tirupati. The government offers ₹10,000 as funeral assistance to donor families and is exploring further ways to honor their contributions.
