Andhra Pradesh has inaugurated 10 Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) and 12 Integrated Public Health Laboratories (IPHLs) in Vijayawada, marking a significant advancement in the state's health infrastructure. The inauguration, which took place on September 12, 2026, involved an investment of ₹250 crore. These new facilities are crucial for strengthening public health preparedness and the overall health-security architecture within the state.
The critical care blocks and integrated public health laboratories are vital components of a resilient health system. They represent the dual capacity to provide immediate life-saving interventions for critically ill patients and to detect and respond effectively to emerging disease threats before they escalate into public health emergencies. The projects have collectively added 500 critical-care beds, advanced operation theatres, and specialized services across various medical disciplines.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), the Union government has allocated substantial funding to Andhra Pradesh. The state received approval for 24 CCBs and 26 IPHLs, with an overall investment of approximately ₹606 crore for these specific components. The total five-year scheme funding for Andhra Pradesh amounts to ₹1,271.80 crore, covering critical care, public health laboratories, and urban and rural health centers.
