Food Poisoning Outbreak in Andhra Pradesh: 23 Hospitalized

In Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh, a suspected food poisoning incident has resulted in 23 individuals being hospitalized. The affected persons developed severe symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever, shortly after consuming deep-fried snacks purchased from a roadside stall in Duggudurru village. Health authorities are actively investigating the outbreak, with district officials visiting the village and collecting food samples. Efforts are underway to identify whether contaminated ingredients, poor food handling, or unhygienic preparation practices were responsible for the mass illness.

The Medical and Health Officer has directed medical staff to provide continuous care to the patients and enhance surveillance to detect any new cases. While the stall owner has reportedly closed the establishment, definitive conclusions await laboratory analysis of the collected samples. Doctors are emphasizing the importance of consuming food from hygienic sources and drinking boiled water, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season. They also advise immediate reporting to health centers for any gastrointestinal or fever symptoms, discouraging self-medication.
