Andhra Pradesh is set to launch special medical programs across the state in October, focusing on the early detection and treatment of health problems in the elderly. Healthcare teams will proactively visit the homes of senior citizens, providing a range of services including medical check-ups, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation.
This initiative will employ the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment tool to collect health information from at least 1,000 elderly individuals at district and area hospitals. Awareness programs on healthy ageing and disease detection will also be conducted.
Last October, a survey of elderly homes revealed that 18.8% showed symptoms of depression, while 9.8% reported frequent falls. These findings underscore the importance of the upcoming health drive to support the state's elderly population.
