Ambulance Trust Hits 5-Year Speed Record for Emergencies
10 Apr
Summary
- Ambulance trust achieved fastest average response time in five years.
- Category two emergencies saw an average response of 28 minutes, 15 seconds.
- Improvements stem from new vehicles and enhanced clinical assessment services.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) has announced its fastest average response times for serious emergencies in nearly five years. In March, crews responded to category two emergencies, including chest pain and stroke symptoms, in an average of 28 minutes and 15 seconds. This marks the trust's best performance since May 2021.
These improvements are credited to dedicated staff efforts and strategic investments. The trust has introduced new vehicles, minimizing time ambulances spend off the road for repairs. Furthermore, the clinical assessment service has been expanded within emergency operations centres, allowing more less-serious cases to be assessed and treated over the phone. Approximately 18% of 999 calls are now resolved without dispatching an ambulance, enabling crews to prioritize the most critical situations.
