Ambulances Stuck: Hospitals Battle Traffic Chaos
17 May
Summary
- Emergency vehicles face critical delays in traffic snarls.
- Hospitals declare 100-meter radius a zero-tolerance zone.
- Action to be taken against police failing to aid ambulances.

Emergency vehicles continue to face critical delays due to traffic congestion, particularly near major hospitals, where encroachments and traffic obstructions jeopardize patient lives. In response, officials in Bhagalpur have decided to designate a 100-meter radius around hospitals as a zero-tolerance zone for any obstructions.
Further measures include taking action against police personnel who do not assist ambulances caught in traffic. The DM of Bhagalpur has issued instructions to keep the area around Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH) free of encroachments and sensitised police to prioritize humanitarian aid for patients. Hospital gate staff have also been trained for quicker responses.
Corrective actions have been initiated in Patna as well, following complaints of encroachments near Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) and Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). This renewed focus aims to reduce avoidable delays in emergency care, where time is of the essence.
