A 15-year-old girl from Kota, who had been seeking treatment for a complex congenital heart defect since she was two years old, passed away at AIIMS Delhi. Her death occurred on Tuesday, just two weeks after her family's prolonged wait for corrective heart surgery was highlighted.
Tanvi was admitted to AIIMS approximately two weeks prior for evaluation for a possible heart-lung transplant. Her father alleged that while surgery dates were previously set, the corrective procedure was never performed. She had been diagnosed with ventricular septal defect and pulmonary atresia in 2012.
Doctors stated that surgery was ruled out in 2018, and she was medically managed thereafter. During her recent admission, she underwent an endoscopy as part of transplant work-up. She complained of fatigue and weakness, her oxygen saturation dropped significantly, and she suffered a hypoxic spell resulting in cardiac arrest, from which she could not be revived.
The family has not yet claimed the body, requesting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. They expressed suspicion and sought answers regarding the delays in her treatment and the events leading to her passing.
