Dozens fall ill at AIIMS Mangalagiri
9 Mar
Summary
- Nearly 30 students reported symptoms of sickness.
- Students experienced diarrhoea and vomiting over three days.
- Water supply was temporarily halted for checks.

A significant health scare occurred at AIIMS Mangalagiri recently, with nearly 30 students falling sick. The affected undergraduate students began exhibiting symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting on Thursday, March 6th, and Friday, March 7th. As of Monday, March 9th, the management reported no new cases and confirmed that all students are stable and have recovered. The cause of the outbreak remains under investigation.
In response to the illness, the hospital management temporarily suspended water supply to the affected block for a day. This measure was taken to conduct necessary checks and ensure safety before resuming the supply. Authorities are considering two primary possibilities: contamination of the water tank in a specific block or consumption of outside food. The incident followed recent Holi celebrations, and stool samples collected from students tested positive for diarrhoea on Monday evening.
