Gut Health Revolution: AIG Opens Microbiome Research Center
16 Jan
Summary
- New center focuses on gut microbiome's role in health and disease.
- Microbiome therapies aim to restore bacterial balance for better health.
- Research will target conditions like IBD, fatty liver, and obesity.

AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, has inaugurated the Centre for Microbiome Research India, a pioneering facility dedicated to advancing treatments for chronic gastrointestinal diseases through microbiome science. This center represents a significant step towards personalized medicine, focusing on the critical role of gut bacteria in overall health and disease progression.
The facility will investigate how trillions of beneficial bacteria in the human gut impact digestion and immunity. When this balance is disrupted, it can lead to inflammation and various digestive disorders. Microbiome-based therapies offer a novel approach to restore this balance, targeting the root biological mechanisms rather than just managing symptoms.
Led by global expert Prof. Emad El-Omar, the center will concentrate on complex gastrointestinal illnesses increasingly prevalent in India and worldwide. Conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, fatty liver disease, obesity, and metabolic disorders are primary targets for this groundbreaking research.
