AI Diagnosed Cancer Before Doctors Did

Summary
- ChatGPT analyzed medical results, diagnosing thyroid cancer.
- A golf ball-sized lump was surgically removed from her neck.
- Results were prematurely released, leading to AI use.

Pippa Collins-Gould, a 29-year-old from Cambridge, received a thyroid cancer diagnosis after using ChatGPT to interpret her medical results. This occurred when her results were accidentally released early via her MyChart health portal.
Initially visiting her GP in April 2025 for a chest infection, Pippa's doctor noted an abnormality on her neck. An ultrasound in June 2025 revealed a lump on her thyroid, which grew to the size of a golf ball and caused pain.
Despite a visit to A&E and inconclusive biopsy results, Pippa underwent surgery in July 2025 at Addenbrooke's Hospital to remove the lump. She later discovered her surgical test results had been uploaded to her health records prematurely.
Feeling lost, Pippa turned to ChatGPT, which identified encapsulated angioinvasive follicular thyroid cancer. Her specialist confirmed this diagnosis. Pippa is now considered clear, highlighting the issue of premature results disclosure.
