The AI chatbot advised her to call 911 immediately, recognizing the signs of a possible stroke. Following this guidance, Hurtado used Siri to contact emergency services and drove herself to Broward Health North.
Doctors confirmed she was suffering a stroke due to a genetic mutation linked to blood clots. They informed her that delaying treatment could have been fatal. She has since undergone brain surgery and is actively participating in physical therapy to regain mobility and relearn to walk.
Hurtado highlighted that many young people, like herself, believe strokes only affect older individuals. Her neurosurgeon noted that while strokes in younger adults remain uncommon, their incidence is increasing globally. Factors such as lifestyle, rising rates of heart disease, and diabetes in younger patients are suspected causes.
Funds are being raised through a GoFundMe to support Hurtado's in-home care, nursing assistance, medical bills, rehabilitation therapy, and essential equipment.
