Hygiene Fail: Snack Factory Sealed in Ahmedabad
17 Oct
Summary
- Ahmedabad snack unit sealed for poor hygiene and illegal additives.
- 1,010kg of snacks prohibited from sale due to violations.
- Fake ketchup made from potato flakes seized; sale stopped.
In Ahmedabad, a snack manufacturing unit in Danilimda was sealed on Friday due to significant hygiene issues, the addition of non-permitted colors, and the repeated reuse of cooking oil. Officials discovered multiple violations, leading to the sealing of AN Gruh Udyog and a prohibition on the sale of 1,010kg of stock. This action was taken to ensure citizens receive safe food products and to protect public health.
The violations at AN Gruh Udyog included a lack of basic hygiene, workers not using hair nets or aprons, and the use of unauthorized colors. FSSAI packaging rules were also disregarded. A significant stock, including maida, masala peanuts, sev, and farshi puri, was subjected to a stop-sale order.
Separately, AMC is investigating units supplied with a condiment marketed as tomato ketchup, despite being made with potato flakes and cornflour instead of tomatoes. The product, 'Tasty Snack Touchup,' was manufactured by MJF Food on Pirana Road and has had approximately 2,000kg of finished product and raw material placed under a stop-sale order. Action will also be taken against units selling this product.
