Summary
- Ahmedabad hospitals added 2,000 beds, a 20-25% increase post-Covid.
- New beds focus on superspeciality, mid-segment, ICU, and oxygen facilities.
- Vadodara saw a significant increase of 4,775 beds post-pandemic.

Ahmedabad has significantly expanded its healthcare infrastructure, adding around 2,000 hospital beds since the Covid-19 pandemic. This represents a 20-25% increase in capacity, with a strong focus on superspeciality services and mid-segment hospitals offering 50 to 100 beds.
The growth in bed capacity, particularly for ICU and oxygen facilities which constitute about 15% of new beds, was spurred by the pandemic's demand. Government hospitals also saw enhancements, with Civil Hospital's MediCity adding new facilities and beds.
Post-pandemic trends also include the wider coverage of government health insurance schemes, making healthcare more accessible. An increasing number of non-communicable diseases necessitate matching infrastructure. Ahmedabad expects further boosts from major groups like Adani and Torrent.
In Vadodara, the healthcare sector also saw substantial growth, adding 4,775 beds. The city's total bed capacity now stands at 21,500 across 3,200 hospitals, up from 16,725 beds in 2019.
