- The clinic ensures lifelong cardiac follow-up for survivors.
Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children in Mumbai has established a unique clinic dedicated to adults with congenital heart disease (GUCH/ACHD). This facility is the first of its kind in western India and serves as a crucial transition care center. Advances in medical treatments mean more children with congenital heart conditions now live into adulthood, requiring specialized, lifelong cardiac monitoring.
The GUCH/ACHD clinic is designed to provide ongoing follow-up for these individuals, including those who may have previously discontinued care. Wadia Hospital, which treats over 1,000 congenital heart patients annually, anticipates managing 90 to 100 adult congenital patients each year. This initiative ensures that survivors of childhood heart conditions receive continuous care as they mature, preventing them from falling through the gaps between pediatric and adult medical services.
