Addenbrooke's Neuroscience Unit Under Urgent Review
31 Jan
Summary
- Addenbrooke's neuroscience unit is undergoing an urgent independent review.
- This follows a previous investigation into a suspended surgeon at the hospital.
- The review will examine multiple clinical teams, prioritizing patient safety.

One of the nation's foremost neuroscience units, located at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, is currently under an urgent and independent review. This comprehensive assessment is being conducted due to concerns surrounding the service provided. The hospital's trust, Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH), initiated this rapid review to examine "a number of clinical teams."
This significant review of the neuroscience service follows closely on the heels of another investigation. Previously, a suspended pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Kuldeep Stohr, was the subject of an independent review last year. Reports at that time indicated that the trust had missed opportunities to address issues with her surgeries.
The current review of the neuroscience service is distinct and will assess the entire unit rather than an individual. CUH stated that patient safety is their highest priority and that they continually assess outcomes to improve care. The findings of this rapid investigation are expected by summer, with the trust committing to publishing the results and implementing all recommendations.
