25 Sep
Summary
- Mamitha Baiju battled 102°F fever and asthma during an Ooty shoot.
- Suriya also experienced a 102°F fever during the same filming period.
- Cold weather and poor air quality can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms.

Mamitha Baiju, 25, recently detailed her challenging experience filming a song in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, alongside actor Suriya. She endured a severe bout of 102°F fever, asthma, and allergies, necessitating frequent nebuliser treatments due to the extremely cold weather conditions.
Actor Suriya also reported experiencing a 102°F fever during the same period. Experts highlight that a combination of environmental triggers like dust, pollen, smoke, strong fragrances, makeup, artificial fog, generator fumes, and fluctuating temperatures can significantly irritate the airways.
These factors, coupled with strenuous physical activity such as prolonged dancing or repeated takes, can exacerbate respiratory issues. For individuals with pre-existing asthma or allergies, such conditions can lead to coughing, wheezing, and breathlessness.
Dr. Manas Mengar, a pulmonologist, explained that intense physical activity can trigger exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, especially in cold, dusty, or polluted environments. Allergic inflammation can also heighten airway sensitivity, making symptoms more pronounced in those with both allergies and asthma.
He advised individuals with asthma to minimize known triggers, adhere to their treatment plans, and keep reliever medication accessible. Protective measures, good ventilation, proper warm-ups, and planned breaks are crucial when working in environments with dust or smoke. Warning signs like rapidly worsening breathlessness, difficulty speaking, severe wheezing, or confusion necessitate immediate medical attention to prevent emergencies.
