Summary
- 64 students hospitalized with abdominal pain and vomiting.
- Illness followed an educational trip to Rani Falls on Saturday.
- Food safety officers are inspecting the food and snacks consumed.
An educational excursion for approximately 330 students from PM Shri Upgraded Middle-cum-High School, Tilmi, in Khunti district has resulted in a significant health emergency. On Sunday, just one day after the trip to Rani Falls on Saturday, 64 students began experiencing severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.
These students were promptly admitted to the community health centre at Karra. Officials confirmed that 24 students have since been discharged, with the remaining 40 students reported to be in stable condition and under medical observation. The school principal noted that both purchased sweets and outside snacks might be contributing factors, prompting food safety officers to launch a detailed inspection.
The deputy commissioner has assured that all students are stable and that authorities are investigating the incident thoroughly. Treatment for the affected students is symptomatic, involving saline, ORS, and regular medications.
