Summary

- Doctors stayed away from duties for up to four years without leave.
- This action follows the dismissal of 51 teaching hospital doctors.

The state government has taken stern action against 43 civil assistant surgeons by dismissing them for prolonged unauthorized absences. These doctors had reportedly stayed away from their duties for up to four years without proper authorization. Despite receiving show-cause notices and charge memos as per service rules, they failed to provide satisfactory responses, leading to their permanent removal from service as of Wednesday.
This recent action specifically targets doctors under the directorate of secondary health services, including specialists in general medicine, orthopedics, and gynecology. It follows a similar dismissal of 51 doctors working in teaching hospitals under the directorate of medical education for comparable violations. Officials identified 118 permanent government doctors as being on unauthorized leave, with rules allowing removal after one year of absence without permission.
In addition to the dismissals, 34 doctors submitted resignations after receiving notices. The government is expected to accept 15 of these, while disciplinary proceedings are underway for the remaining 19 who resigned after charges were framed. Inquiry officers have been appointed to examine these cases. Furthermore, 19 doctors have submitted explanations citing personal reasons, which are subject to verification through departmental inquiries.
