Ghost Doctors: 32 Telangana Faculty Face Boot For Year-Long Absence

Thirty-two faculty members of Telangana's government medical colleges have been issued show-cause notices by the Director of Medical Education (DME) for their prolonged, unauthorised absence from duty, lasting over a year. These doctors, including assistant professors and senior faculty across critical departments, have been simultaneously employed at other institutions, a clear violation of service rules.
Reports from hospital principals indicated that these faculty members had disengaged from their government roles. The DME's notice highlights that such absences have not only inconvenienced hospital administration but have also deprived citizens of essential medical care at government facilities. The affected doctors hail from RIMS Adilabad, GMC Bhadradri Kothagudem, GMC Kamareddy, GMC Jagtial, and GMC Sangareddy.
Citing Fundamental Rule 18 and the Telangana Leave Rules of 1933, the DME has provisionally decided to terminate the services of these 32 doctors from the date of their unauthorised absence. The individuals have a 15-day window from receiving the notice to appear in person and submit an explanation; failure to do so will be considered an admission of having no defence.
