In a remarkable medical feat, doctors at the Dr B R Ambedkar Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital (BRA-IRCH) in Delhi successfully removed a 21.8-kg tumor from a 46-year-old woman. The patient, a Delhi resident, had been experiencing increasing abdominal fullness for four months, which progressed to severe distension and pain over the last three months.
Evaluations revealed a gigantic mass measuring approximately 45 cm, originating from the woman's uterus. This massive growth was critically compressing vital organs, including her kidneys and ureters, posing a significant risk of renal failure within a short period. The tumor also caused lower back pain, mobility issues, and respiratory distress.
On March 23, a surgical team performed a five-hour exploratory laparotomy. The procedure confirmed the tumor's uterine origin. Surgeons meticulously excised the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the enormous tumor, bringing a life-threatening situation to a successful conclusion.
