Tragic post-operative complications have led to the deaths of two mothers and left four others in critical condition at New College Medical Hospital in Kota, Rajasthan. All six women underwent C-section deliveries on May 4. Shortly after, they began experiencing severe discomfort, including chest pain and an inability to pass urine, which doctors believe impacted their kidneys.
One patient, 28-year-old Payal, died on May 5, followed by 20-year-old Jyoti Ravi two days later, with kidney failure cited as the preliminary cause. The remaining four women are under close observation in the ICU, with three still facing issues with urination and visible swelling. One affected mother, Ragini Meena, described anxiety and swelling after delivery.
The Rajasthan government has initiated a thorough inquiry, dispatching a four-specialist team from Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Medical College to Kota. Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar emphasized the need for comprehensive assistance. Medicines used during the cesarean procedures have been temporarily banned statewide as officials race to identify a potential link to the adverse events.
This hospital is a major facility in Rajasthan, drawing patients from Baran, Jhalawar, and Bundi districts, as well as from neighboring Madhya Pradesh. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of these severe complications and ensure patient safety moving forward.
