Summary
- Regular blood pressure checks from age 40 are essential.
- Start diabetes screening at 35; physical activity is vital.
- Prioritize sleep, diet, and avoid extreme gym workouts.
On World Heart Day, cardiologists in Lucknow presented a comprehensive 10-point strategy to combat heart diseases and complications. The program, organized by the Cardiological Society of India, aimed to educate state police officials about managing stress-related heart risks.
Experts advised regular health monitoring, including blood pressure checks from age 40 and diabetes screening starting at 35, with follow-ups every three years. Lipid profile tracking from age 20 and tobacco cessation were also stressed.
Lifestyle modifications are crucial, with a recommendation of at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity weekly. Maintaining a healthy weight, consuming a diet rich in vegetables and fruits, and ensuring seven to nine hours of quality sleep are vital for stress management.
Cardiologists also highlighted specific concerns, noting the prevalence of heart disease in women and the alarming rise in sudden cardiac deaths among young individuals engaging in extreme gym workouts. They urged caution against unmonitored, intense exercises without prior cardiovascular evaluation.
