Summary
- £65m allocated for 94 flood defence schemes in Yorkshire.
- Investment covers April 2026 to March 2029 funding period.
- National investment of £1.4bn announced for flood defences in England.

Nearly 100 flood defence schemes in Yorkshire and the Humber are set to receive a significant financial injection of £65 million. The Environment Agency announced this investment, which is designated for the period between April 2026 and March 2029. This funding will specifically aid areas that have experienced severe flooding in recent years, such as Bentley, Hebden Bridge, and Whiston.
The Brighouse Flood Alleviation Scheme in West Yorkshire will benefit from £2.4 million, targeting the reduction of flood risk for over 400 properties. This initiative is part of a broader national investment totaling £1.4 billion for flood defences across England.
Further allocations include £2.16 million for the Sheffield Upper Don Flood Alleviation Scheme and £1.2 million for the Hebden Bridge Flood Alleviation Scheme. Additionally, the Whiston Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme has been allocated £2 million, following recent significant flooding in the village.
Overall, England's flood defences will see at least £10.5 billion invested between 2024 and 2036. This comprehensive strategy aims to protect tens of thousands of homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure nationwide, strengthening community reliance during adverse weather events.
