26 Feb
Summary
- 20 turbines of 656ft height proposed near Stang Forest.
- Local opposition fears peatland damage and wildlife threat.
- Developers claim project will power 81,000 homes.

A proposed wind farm on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales has ignited strong opposition from local residents. The development, named Hope Moor Wind Farm, would feature 20 turbines standing approximately 656ft tall, situated near Stang Forest between Arkengarthdale and Teesdale.
More than 100 people gathered at a public meeting to discuss the plans, expressing significant concerns. Issues raised included the immense size of the proposed turbines, potential harm to the delicate peatland ecosystem from substantial concrete usage, and the risks to local wildlife.
Campaigners are also worried that their voices will not be heard, as the application will be handled by the national Planning Inspectorate instead of local authorities. Fred. Olsen Renewables, the company behind the proposal, stated that the project is in its early stages and aims to engage meaningfully with the community, promising renewable energy, local jobs, and environmental stewardship funds.
