Cleveland Potash faces the largest penalty of £215,000 for discharging mine brine into local becks, causing the death of approximately 700 fish in June 2022. Balfour Beatty Group was fined £200,000 due to silt-contaminated water releases from a construction site in 2020.
Energy Works (Hull) Ltd will pay £30,000 following issues with its fire protection plan in September 2020. GWE Biogas Ltd must contribute £22,000 after operating an anaerobic digester tank without authorization in August 2023. All companies also bear the Environment Agency's investigation costs.
