Summary
- 800 young trees were planted at Wistman's Wood Nature Reserve.
- The initiative aims to expand one of the UK's last temperate rainforests.
- Volunteers from multiple organizations partnered for the tree planting.

Volunteers have planted 800 young trees as part of an initiative to expand Wistman's Wood, a vital temperate rainforest on Dartmoor. This significant conservation effort took place at the Wistman's Wood National Nature Reserve, aiming to bolster one of the South West's final remaining ancient woodlands.
The project was a collaborative endeavor, spearheaded by volunteers from Natural England and supported by the Duchy of Cornwall, Moor Trees, and the Woodland Trust. This planting follows a previous success in March 2025, where 450 saplings were introduced to the site.
The saplings were carefully planted within protected, fenced areas designed to ensure their survival and growth. Emma Magee of the Duchy of Cornwall highlighted the Duchy's commitment to nature-rich landscapes, emphasizing that rainforest restoration requires sustained, long-term effort rather than isolated interventions.
This ongoing work underscores the importance of continuous dedication to enhancing and expanding rare temperate rainforests. The collaboration between various organizations demonstrates a shared commitment to preserving these unique natural environments for the future.
