Wingham Wildlife Park is embarking on a significant expansion project, set to double the size of its facilities. This ambitious development aims to enhance living conditions for endangered animals residing at the park, located near Canterbury.
The park has initiated a public fundraising campaign, seeking to raise £50,000. These funds are earmarked for the construction of new enclosures and the purchase of vital enrichment items, including toys, feeding racks, and climbing apparatus.
Central to this expansion is the introduction of new species. Three Asiatic lions are expected to arrive from Fota Wildlife Park in Ireland, a move critical for conservation efforts given their scarce natural habitat.
Managing director Tony Binskin emphasized that the expansion is focused on "building a better future for wildlife." The initiative also aims to foster a deeper appreciation for conservation among visitors and support vital breeding programs for threatened species.
